Dallas County Early Childhood Family Resource Center
Parenting for Success
Parenting for Success
Every parent wants their child to be healthy and successful. Children who grow up in families where parents are resilient; socially connected; knowledgeable about parenting and child development; have concrete support in times of need and, promote social and emotional competence in their children will have healthy outcomes. The Family Resource Center provides a place where parents can find the programs, services and resources to assist them in their parenting journey. The Center is open the fourth Tuesday of every month from 1 to 3 PM at 1109 2nd Street in Perry. Call 515-250-8809 for more information and check the calendar under Parent Education for program topics and times.
Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development
Parents who understand the typical course of child development are more likely to be able to nurture their child's healthy development. Once a month, parents are invited to attend programs such as infant massage;nurturing healthy sexual development, toilet teaching;nutrition, and other useful parenting topics. Parents can also use the lending library and borrow books, DVDs and resource materials. Informal parent-driven discussion groups give parents opportunities to share their experiences and learn with other parents. Parent-child learning opportunities help parents understand their own child by observing other children of similar age.
Social Connections and Concrete Support
Parents benefit from a strong network of extended family, friends, neighbors and community. The Resource Center provides opportunities to belong to a network of parents and develop a community that helps each other out and provides fun and friendship. From time to time, families need concrete supports such as economic resources, social services or access to health care. The Resource Center can provide information and referral to professional services to help parents meet their basic needs and achieve positive outcomes for themselves and their children.
